In the heart of England, we visited the majestic and impressive Warwick Castle.
The castle is surrounded by a huge green area: beautiful floral gardens and green fields populated by numerous peacocks that do not hold back at all and offer beautiful dances to visitors.
In a corner of the garden we found out where the word “sandwich” comes from.
Legend says that in 1760, John Montague, the fourth Count of Sandwich, was playing cards and did not stop for dinner. He ordered that the flesh prepared for him was put between two slices of bread so he could eat while playing.
Everyone started to copy it by asking “flesh-prepared-as-one-of-John-Montague-the-fourth-Count-of-Sandwich”.
The ancient Romans had this idea more than a thousand years before but no one had ever called so what we now call all sandwich.
The interior of the castle can be visited and you can “assist” to a Royal Weekend Party.
Thanks to realistic statues that populate the sumptuous rooms you are thrown to 25 June 1898: the butler greets you at the entrance, the men play cards or chat in the library while the palace women sit in elegant rooms decorated with dozens of flowers . Really impressive.
So well kept! I like the human figures kept adding a sort of life and story to the scenes.

I am in lobve with these pictures. The peacock looks so royal and the lush green grass in your 1st picture is so tempting to relax.

I've read the story of the Sandwich so long ago I had forgotten it, but now that I read it again it came to my mind vividly. Such a wonderful place, with that "British green" to it! The castle is impressive by the way.
You reminded me of my own visit. I visited last October on Halloween. Did you see the bird flight or take some of the medieval fighting classes? They were great too.

I haven't seen an English castle before that actually has figures arranged in the rooms so that you can "see" history how it happened. Very interesting idea. I didn't know that this was the place where the sandwich was invented 🙂
Wow I have been to a ton of European (and British) castles but never seen them with statues and period costume. That is really cool. But even more, I am super excited to know where the sandwich comes from!
I never knew about this legend, but it is somehow not surprising that someone was having too much fun to have a proper meal. Done it before. The photos are stunning, especially that of the peacock.
